A Winter Weekend in Zion National Park

ZION NATIONAL PARK | SPRINGDALE, UTAH

Zion National Park is the perfect weekend trip from Los Angeles any time of year, but it can be especially spectacular in the winter. One of the most popular parks, Zion National Park is definitely a must-visit in winter.

SANTA MONICA AIRPORT | LOS ANGELES

As with most of my other adventures, this one starts at the Santa Monica Airport. It was a beautiful weekend for flying so as we turned over the Santa Monica pier and climbed out of the Los Angeles basin, the mountains to the northwest covered in snow. Those snow-covered mountains in the high desert were an amazing view and a nice preview of what we were in for when we got to Utah. Passing Las Vegas, we flew over Lake Mead which looked like a painting. Before we knew it, we were straight in for St. George.

ZION NATIONAL PARK | SPRINGDALE, UTAH

The last time I was in Zion was when I hiked Angels Landing and the Subway (top down). This time there was a lot more snow so it limited the areas that we could visit. However, these two days in Zion National Park provided just enough time to explore some of popular spots. We were able to make our way down the Riverside Walk and check out the Narrows. Angels Landing was open but, unfortunately, we were not prepared with crampons for the hike. We did make it to the top of Canyon Overlook Trail, though, for some spectacular views of the canyon below. We also spent some time walking along the Virgin River and taking photos of the amazing mountains.

ST GEORGE AIRPORT - ST GEORGE, UTAH

Sunday was another perfect day for flying and so we departed St. George Airport and headed back towards LA. We flew right over Hollywood and Highland as the Grammy arrivals were happening which gave us a great view of the Hollywood sign. Until the next adventure...
