Strange Arrivals | Sun 'n Fun Day 2

LAKELAND, FLORIDA

Wednesday, day two of Sun ‘n Fun, brought more exploring of the aircraft that were literally everywhere around the airport grounds. I spotted so many unusual aircraft, many I had never seen before, or even knew existed. One of which was a 1947 Republic RC-3. I also spotted a flying Grumman OV-1 Mohawk. I had only seen one other at the Planes of Fame Museum at Chino Airport but it was not operational. I spent quite a bit of time talking to both the pilot and crew chief. The plane was a flying memorial to those 1,636 service members that have not been accounted for in Vietnam. Each name is listed on the body of the aircraft. Although this airplane is certified for aerobatics, it was only doing fly-bys at this show – that was more than enough for me. I was stoked to see such a unique aircraft, built by the company that I work for, with an awesome history, perform.
