Watching the Sunset at an Active Volcano | Mt. Saint Helens

The next stop on my Pacific Northwest adventure was Mt Saint Helens.  Immediately following the Mt Rainier hike, we made the drive down to to mountain that literally blew it's top 36 years ago!  The Johnston Ridge Observatory provided the perfect vantage point to witness the amazing sunset.

One of the things about Mt Saint Helens the amazed me was the amount of mountain that was blown into the sky.  If you take a look at the photos below, you will see the giant crater that was left behind.  Now, if you imagine that the slopes of the mountain used to come to a point; all of the stuff that is missing is what was shot into the atmosphere during the 1980 eruption!  Enjoy the photos and I have even included a time lapse.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to comment below or send me a message.
