Driving Through the High Desert

CALIFORNIA DESERT

I never knew I had an addiction to deserted, incredibly straight roads through nothingness until I drove through the high desert of California. There are no shortage of them and contrary to what you might think, each one is unique. If long, straight, empty roads don’t get you excited, maybe what you find along them will. These photos are from our last trip to Death Valley National Park, where driving through the desert, we found one of the most out-of-place things we have ever seen, the Amargosa Opera House. It is an opera house in the middle of nowhere. You can even stay at the connected motel. The high desert sunsets can also be a spectacular event to witness so take a drive – but fill up the tank because cell signal and gas stations are few and far between.
